Data shared with UM Curators at February meeting
COLUMBIA, Mo. – ÎçÒ¹Ó°Ôº System President Mun Choi and chancellors for campuses across the system today shared application data with the ÎçÒ¹Ó°Ôº Board of Curators. Applications at every campus are up compared to last year, indicating that first-time college enrollment and transfer enrollment could increase across the system when the 2018-19 academic year begins in August.
“These numbers demonstrate that Missourians and out-of-state students recognize that they can receive exceptional and affordable educations while becoming career-ready,” Choi said. “Our strong applications come at a time when there are fewer high school graduates throughout most of the country and increased competition among higher education institutions. This interest from potential students speaks to the value we provide and the reputation of our campuses. Our faculty are some of the best in the country, and our staff are working hard every day to provide students with an unmatched experience.”

Recruitment efforts at all four campuses have been bolstered by additional activities and marketing, from targeted ad campaigns to ramped up recruitment efforts in Missouri and beyond.
“The four campuses within the UM System serve more than half of all students who receive a college degree in Missouri, filling key workforce needs for teachers, engineers, media professionals, farmers, health care workers, police officers, lawyers, musicians, artists, veterinarians and more,” Choi said. “No university is doing more to meet our state’s industry needs and create the jobs of tomorrow. This is a very exciting time for our university.”
###
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI SYSTEM: The ÎçÒ¹Ó°Ôº was founded in Columbia in 1839. The University had a single campus until 1870, when the School of Mines and Metallurgy was established in Rolla. In the same year, the University assumed land-grant responsibilities of providing higher education opportunities for all citizens. In 1963, the University expanded by founding a new campus in St. Louis and acquiring the University of Kansas City, creating the present four-campus system. Today, the ÎçÒ¹Ó°Ôº is one of the nation’s largest higher education institutions, with more than 75,000 students, a health care enterprise and a statewide extension program.
