The NextGen Precision Health Discovery Series provides learning opportunities for UM System faculty and staff across disciplines, the statewide community and our other partners to learn about the scope of precision health research and identify potential collaborative opportunities. The series consists of monthly lectures geared toward a broad multidisciplinary audience so all can participate and appreciate the spectrum of precision health efforts.

Dr. Fleming will be talking about the intersection of clinical medicine with translational research in the era of precision medicine and the potential impact scientific discovery can have on enhancing trust in the healing relationship and improving communication in complex decision-making at the bedside, particularly at the end of life.

Dr. Fleming is Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Emeritus Chair of the Department of Medicine at the 午夜影院 School of Medicine (2009-2016); he also is the founding director of the Center for Health Ethics at that institution (2001), where he continues to serve as senior scholar. From 1999-2001, he was a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services primary care research fellow at the Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown University, where he also received a master of arts in ethics and the professions. In addition to many scholarly works, he is lead editor and author of the book 鈥淐are of the Dying Patient.鈥 Dr. Fleming was president of the American College of Physicians from 2014-2015 and served as a member of the Board of Regents for the National Institutes of Health 鈥 National Library of Medicine from 2011-2015. He has been a member of the Council on Ethics and Judicial Affairs of the American Medical Association for over six years and presently serves as chair.
